Diana Hsieh

I am a philosopher specializing in practical ethics. I received my Ph.D in philosophy from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2009. My dissertation defended ordinary attributions of moral praise and blame against Nagel's problem of moral luck based on a broadly Aristotelian theory of moral responsibility.

My focus is now on podcasting, and ultimately, radio. My primary project is Rationally Selfish, a podcast and blog offering principled and practical advice for living life to the utmost based on Ayn Rand's principles of rational selfishness.

In addition, I produce podcasts and discussion questions for Ayn Rand's epic novel Atlas Shrugged at Explore Atlas Shrugged, as well as philosophy podcasts at PhiloFiles. I host mailing lists at OList, help manage Front Range Objectivism (FRO), founded the Coalition for Secular Government, and help a bit with Freedom and Individual Rights in Medicine (FIRM).

I live with my husband Paul Hsieh and a small menagerie of beasts in Sedalia, Colorado.

NoodleFood and NoodleCast are the central repository of all my blogging and podcasting, respectively. They include everything offered as part of Rationally Selfish, Explore Atlas Shrugged, and PhiloFiles. They also include blog posts and podcasts on my more personal interests, such as activism for free markets and individual rights, paleo-ish diets and health, classic literature, and funny stuff.

My blog Rationally Selfish Life and my podcast Rationally Selfish Radio offer practical advice on living and enjoying your life to the utmost. Topics are usually based on questions submitted by podcast listeners and blog readers. My advice seeks to apply the principles of Ayn Rand's philosophy of Objectivism to the challenges of ordinary life.

 Explore Atlas Shrugged

Explore Atlas Shrugged hosts podcasts and discussion questions on Ayn Rand's novel Atlas Shrugged, divided into twenty parts. The primary purpose is to provide the resources necessary for Objectivists and other fans of Ayn Rand to run high-quality Atlas Shrugged Reading Groups. However, anyone interested in studying the novel in greater depth will find the podcasts and questions of value.

PhiloFiles compiles my blogging and podcasts on academic philosophy, including material from my teaching files. My academic papers from graduate school are compiled here.

Front Range Objectivism (FRO) is an organization dedicated to understanding and advocating Ayn Rand's philosophy of Objectivism along the Front Range of the Colorado Rockies.

Coalition for Secular Government (CSG) advocates government solely based on secular principles of individual rights.

Freedom and Individual Rights in Medicine (FIRM) promotes the philosophy of individual rights, personal responsibility, and free market economics in health care.
