Diana Hsieh

I'm a philosopher specializing in the application of rational principles to the challenges of real life. I produce radio shows, blog posts, podcasts, essays, and more via my own Philosophy in Action.

My Philosophical Work

I received my Ph.D in philosophy from University of Colorado at Boulder in 2009. My dissertation solved Thomas Nagel's "problem of moral luck" using an Aristotelian theory of moral responsibility.

Now I focus on the application of rational principles to the challenges of real life at my own Philosophy in Action.

Philosophy in Action Radio broadcasts on most Sunday mornings and some Thursday evenings.

  • On Sunday mornings, I answer four meaty questions applying rational principles to the challenges of real life in a live hour-long internet radio show. Greg Perkins of Objectivist Answers co-hosts the show.
  • On Thursday evenings, I interview a special guest on some topic of relevance to our lives in a half-hour to hour-long internet call-in radio show.

People listening to the live broadcasts can ask follow-up questions and make comments in the text-based chat.

Since 2002, I've blogged at NoodleFood. I blog about philosophy, culture, politics, ethics, life skills, and much more. I announce upcoming lectures, published writings, and other news. I blog funny and offbeat finds too.

Other Projects

My other projects include Modern Paleo, the Coalition for Secular Government, Explore Ayn Rand.

Modern Paleo hosts writings by myself and other Objectivists on the principles and practice of nutrition, fitness, and health most conducive to human flourishing. We seek the best that modern life has to offer, informed by a broadly paleo approach. I founded Modern Paleo in 2010.

Coalition for Secular Government (CSG) advocates government solely based on secular principles of individual rights. CSG has published two policy papers against the movement to grant rights to zygotes, including The "Personhood" Movement Is Anti-Life: Why It Matters that Rights Begin at Birth, Not Conception by Ari Armstrong and me. I founded CSG in 2008.

Explore Ayn Rand hosts my podcasts and discussion questions on Ayn Rand's epic novel Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. They are intended for any fan of the novel seeking to explore its events, characters, and ideas in depth, as well as for any leader of or participant in an Atlas Shrugged Reading Group.

My Life

I live with my husband Paul Hsieh in Sedalia, Colorado. Paul and I married in 1999, and we moved to Colorado in 2001. We live south of metro Denver, on a small farm in Sedalia.

Paul Hsieh is a physician specializing in orthopedic and emergency radiology. Paul blogs offbeat tech news at GeekPress. He publishes on health care policy for FIRM (Freedom and Individual Rights in Medicine).

We have a small menagerie of beloved beasts -- currently, two horses, two dogs, and three cats.
